Clean Water, Healthier Lives: Yahaya Yusuf Foundation Commissions Borehole in Agojeju Ateh Community
On December 29, 2023, the Yahaya Yusuf Foundation marked another major milestone in its mission to uplift rural communities by commissioning a solar-powered clean water borehole in Agojeju Ateh, a remote community in Ofu Local Government Area, Kogi State. This life-changing project was designed not only to provide safe drinking water, but also to offer a sustainable, environmentally friendly solution to the community’s long-standing water challenges.

From Water Scarcity to Sustainability
For years, residents of Agojeju Ateh struggled with limited access to clean water, relying on distant and often contaminated streams. This led to frequent outbreaks of waterborne diseases and placed enormous physical and emotional strain on women and children who trekked long distances daily in search of water.
The newly installed solar-powered borehole now provides a reliable, clean, and eco-friendly water supply for over 500 residents. With solar energy powering the pumping system, the community now enjoys consistent access to water without the cost and environmental burden of diesel or manual systems.
Promoting Health and Empowerment
Clean water is more than a basic need—it is a foundation for good health, education, and economic empowerment. With this solar-powered borehole, residents now:
– Have reduced exposure to waterborne illnesses
– Spend less time fetching water, especially women and children
– Enjoy greater school attendance and productivity
– Embrace a renewable solution that supports environmental protection
Aligned with Global Goals
This project is part of the Yahaya Yusuf Foundation’s broader commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—particularly:
Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation
Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being
By combining clean water with clean energy, the Foundation is driving long-term, community-led development in the most underserved areas of Nigeria.
